Spatial biology enables the study of the contextual relationship between different cell types. In the immuno-oncology (IO) field, spatial biology is used to study immune cells and tumoral cells in their spatial context. Understanding immune cell phenotypes, functional activities, and spatial relationships inside or around the tumoral mass is emerging as a crucial factor of immune responsiveness and resistance in the IO field. 

Our exclusive speaker, Dr. Lubka Roumenina, Senior Scientist at Corderlier Research Centre (France), will explore the latest developments in her research and will show how spatial biology is supporting her study of the intricate landscape of the complement in cancers. 

In addition, we will feature how Lunaphore’s solutions enable researchers to generate reproducible spatial data with the fully automated COMET™ staining and imaging platform. Attendees will also discover our novel multiomics application, which integrates RNAscope™ and sequential immunofluorescence (seqIF™) to identify RNA and protein targets simultaneously on the same tissue section in a fully automated workflow.  Our unique spatial biology approach will enable scientists to characterize novel molecular signatures and support the development of targeted therapies.

Lubka Roumenina, Ph.D.

Lubka Roumenina is a senior scientist at the Cordeliers Research Center, Inserm, France, leading a group focused on studying the innate immune complement system in health and disease. Her research investigates complement activation and regulation in the bloodstream and intracellularly. Lubka's pioneering work explores complement's role in renal cancer, revealing the pro-tumoral of the plasma complement cascade and the newly discovered intracellular complement proteins. Recently she has received the SVAR Complement Excellence Award from the European Complement Society and the ARDRM Award for basic research.

Joanna got fascinated by cell biology during her master’s degree studies at Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland. Afterwards she joined Institut Curie, Paris, France, where she developed a proteomic cartography of extracellular vesicles in the frame of her Ph.D. research project. She obtained a Ph.D. degree from Université Paris Descartes in 2016. During her postdoctoral training at the University of Lausanne, Joanna interrogated the interaction within the tumor microenvironment with a focus on immune and malignant cells in the context of primary brain tumors. She joined Lunaphore in 2020 and since then works on bringing spatial biology to every laboratory.
